Another fleur-de-lis poster design. This quote is from a Michael Pollan book about the history of our food and the importance of eating plants. Pen and Ink on board. 22x28.
These always start as an idea in the sketchbook. I then lay the type out digitally and transfer that template to the board. Sans Serif faces work the best and 4-6 words. More than that and its too small to be effective. Onee the type outlines are transferred to the board, I just freehand all of the fleur-de-lis work. I like to stop once the main type is outlined in smaller detail and give it a thick key line. Then I crank up the scale of the drawing. It not only looks cool to let the detail lessen toward the edges, it makes it easier to draw as well.
