SO, If didn’t just play a cartoonist on TV, what Ink would I use? In today’s episode, I explore some of the inks on my shelf and discuss why I like what I like and tell you to use it too!
There are many options. But in the end, what is your goal? For me indelibility is king, so I chose Noodler’s Bulletproof Black. I also LOVE Pro Black. But my weapons of choice for my sketchbooks are fountain pens. Come back next week to find out what pens and why. The point is, Pro Black is way too thick and creamy to work in a fountain pen. So it’s brush only for that.
Do I pencil in my sketchbooks and go back and ink? About 1% of the time. I prefer the commitment of drawing straight-ahead with ink. It reminds me of being a kid and not knowing how to draw. You just got what you got. Committing with ink saves time and really shows what kind of draftsman you are. Can hide that lazy like that you put down because you were distracted and not paying attention. Try it. At first it is terrifying, but then you’ll relax and embrace the chaos. And one day someone on social media will tell you they thought the drawings were made by a child and you’ll feel SO PROUD that after years of learning how to draw and then trying to relearn how to be a child, you have succeeded.
