The heat's back is broken and the breeze makes it quite lovely. The busking band wrapped 10m ago and they linger chatting up future gigs and lessons learned.
‘The old bank building is now just a guitar shack. I mean rows and rows of guitars.’
‘Unless it’s my PA, I always pay the guy something because they are SUCH a pain in the ass.’
I wonder what these men do full time. It seems exceedingly unlikely that they make their living from music. Not that aren’t good, it’s just such a brutal field that nearly everyone who plays pays their rent with a 9-5.
Shopkeepers come out now like fireflies as the sun sets. Keys jingle jangling while putting away decorations set out to attract customers.
Music over, shops shuttering, the crowds drift away.
Now it’s only me and those stalwart songsters who for personal reasons choose not to go home but to stand about talking shop.
Perhaps this is better than their regular life. I like to imagine that they just love music so much that they cannot resist the opportunity to first do the activity and then discuss the activity.
A siren bleats in the distance and we mosey on.
