Art is an intensified form of existence.
I would add, personally, that it’s an attempt to seize a moment and exist in it apart from the stream of time. To bask in the glory of an experience over and over. True art allows that event to expand beyond the artist and invites others to participate in what is essentially a form of time travel. I believe this is what makes original works so much more powerful than prints or recordings. Original pieces contain that tap into universal energy with which the participants connect and understand. We all see something different and personal and simultaneously the same thing.
Music mines the well of the subconscious without context, judgement or fear. Melody leaves one with a mind full of melancholy or of joy, where it must be forged into a cohesive thought followed by some kind of action.
Music controls reality.
