Standing steadfast, always protecting is our creature, GORT. From The Day The Earth Stood Still, which is based on a short story by Harry Bates, ‘Farewell to the Master’ published in 1940, GORT has been a mental bookmark for my entire life. While the remake in 2008 was a middling affair (not helped AT ALL by the absolutely unnecessary addition of a child who was poorly cast), the original film from 1951 is a stunner. I picked this guy up in jim thorpe pa at the CCCP. He's metal. I mean the figure is actually cast in metal! It's heavy. In honor of my new friend I picked up a copy of the original movie. It's on the list to watch now.
Incidentally, GORT stands for Generically Organized Robotic Technology.
