Being invisible is nice
I’m no writer. But I enjoy writing. I also enjoy whiling hours away in a sketchbook that I can safely believe no one will ever see. Joe Lansdale suggested writing ‘like everyone you know is dead.’ This is easy as long as you are confident they won’t see the beans you spilled about them. That’s why being invisible is so nice. Even small audiences can paralyze an artist out of fear of judgment.
1. Here’s a list
Lists are nice. When I speak publicly, I find lists are a great way to give both the speaker and the audience confidence. Something that’s easy to follow and with which to connect. Three points to change your attitude.
’Three points,’ you say to yourself, ‘I can do three things!’ and your in.
But, if just drone on one thing after another, you wonder when this is going to end and if you put the laundry in the drier before you left.
2. Two kinds to rule us all
This is just my opinion, man, but it seems to me that I only want to read/see two kinds of content: 1. Content by someone I know and care about. 2. Content that helps me be a better human and artists/creative. 3. I suppose there is room for entertainment. But, blogs, newsletters and social media in general tend to be the first two for me. I hope that whatever goes into this site appeals to you or helps in some way.
3. A home in the cloud
I’ve been publishing to blogger (www.artofmiggy.com) since May of 2009. That’s 14 danged years of random art and musings. Blogger is an easy platform to publish too, but something about the infrastructure, or maybe that it’s something else Google owns, whatever it is… humans largely abandoned it. That’s okay. But something about almost no one posting there gives me the bulletin-board vibes. As in: abandonware. Will google shut off the servers and kill that history? IDK. Do people read what’s posted there? I’m pretty sure ArtofMiggy is sufficiently invisible to keep me comfortable. But I don’t want it dead. So, here I come substack. I find some very motivating resources in here and I’d like to participate. Maybe my musings will give YOU some benefit. If so, GREAT! If not? Well, not every book in the library is for everyone. Man, I do love me a library though.
At any rate, the whole point of this effort is to catalog what I think, what I draw, what I write and maaayyyybe give you some value or distraction. That would be great. If you do like it. Subscribe, I think.

I like this platform! But I’m already apologizing I’m total newbie for it so if I don’t know how to use it right or I comment something stupid feel free to correct! So happy the musings get a rightful home instead of ad crowded social media 💪🏾 Taija
