11/5 Blue Ridge Parkway North Carolina (E of Spruce Pine)
A young Irish setter drinks trepidatiously
The brook babbles splashes
Tirelessly, until the spring
Thaw swells the tiny stream
Into a sizable torrent.
Then it roars squeals.
11/5/22 Morning; Blowing Rock, NC; Hellbender Bed & Beverage for breakfast
We get in to the Hellbender for a quote reverie. IT is majestic after strolling the foggy streets (listening to the wind blow through the trees overhead). My Canadian bacon biscuit is marvelous. Then a gaggle fo brach, white women crash our silence like poorly times cymbals.
“That was LSD talking”
“It comes with a cool name”
“It’s like, double that”
“You were all going to pick a sector”
“Taxes & Fees”
“Are you talking about the investment property?”
“Our goal was every 3 years buy an investment property”
Barkeep: ‘So, tequila is made w/ agave, so I feel like….’
The din has not lessened, but we have forgotten the peace before these trust-fund babies. Angie & are simple, happy people. I am still excited. It was rigorous & wonderful. We hiked a lot yesterday, I think the blood flow helped inspire me to more effort. We need to get more active. Can 50 year olds be athletic?
Sparta:
In Allegheny county, NC.
11/4. The town is far busier than it should be. A Young mother belts her infant son into his car seat & tells him ‘Henry, you are an angel.’ She takes her time. She’s a good mother, I can tell. There’s not need for her to rush. Dad comes a moment later w/ Henry’s older brother. He to gets belted in. He will grow up to be like his father who is present & attentive. Emotionally available in the parlance of our time. The young family, from Virginia, pulls away to next dest.
A HUGE service truck, dark blue, flat bed, ROARS through teh tiny intersection of hwys 18 & 21 Full throttle. The driver has deleted ALL of the factory smog inhibitors & a black cloud consumes the whole street for blocks, like some hideous death specter. The smell is equally atrocious.
The courthouse is a simple affair: red brick with four ionic columns & a pedestal emblazoned with “In God we Trust.” No one here trusts THE GOD. Money & sex seem the most likely god’s in which they put their faith. Most do. But even so, people seem kind & friendly enough.
Mile 271.9 W Jefferson Park. Close to the end of a lovey day.
I like the hours before dawn.
There is no one around to remind me who I am supposed to be.
So I can remember who I really am.
Never the most qualified or the most knowledgeable. Walking failure waiting for the right moment to break. But the right moment never comes. So pregnant failure continues its gestation.
Do you want to enter paradise?
To walk in the path of truth
You will need the grace of God.
We all face death in the end.
But on the way, be careful
Never to hurt a human heart!
